Rachael Sisson, Owner, EL Teacher
Rachael brings a rare depth of experience to her role as Head of School at Northern Lights Montessori Academy — one shaped by years of work across higher education, secondary, and primary school settings, and grounded in a lifelong commitment to meaningful, child-centered learning.
Rachael holds a Bachelor's degree from Calvin University in International Relations, a Master of Public Policy from Pepperdine University, and a Master of Education from the University of Mary. Her academic background reflects both her passion for thoughtful educational leadership and her belief that policy, community, and pedagogy are deeply intertwined. In October 2026, she will complete her Montessori certification through the Center for Guided Montessori Studies (CGMS) — a milestone that deepens her already rich expertise and affirms her dedication to the Montessori philosophy at its highest level.
Throughout her career, Rachael has worked across the full spectrum of education, bringing insight and perspective from every level she has served. Whether supporting college students navigating their futures, guiding adolescents through pivotal years, or nurturing the curiosity of young children, she leads with empathy, intention, and a steadfast belief in the potential of every learner.
A Michigan native who grew up in Rockford, Rachael has found her home — and her community — in the wide-open landscapes of North Dakota. She is happily married and raises two spirited boys, ages eight and six, who remind her every day why the early years matter so much. Outside of school, Rachael recharges through travel, yoga, Pilates, and exploring the outdoors with her family and dog. Whether hitting a mountain trail or finding stillness on the mat, she brings the same grounded energy to her personal life that she brings to NLMA each day.
Rachael is honored to lead Northern Lights Montessori Academy and to build, alongside her staff and families, a school community where children are known, challenged, and free to become exactly who they are meant to be.
